How do I apply?
The preferred method is to apply online at https://apply.grad.arizona.edu/. If you are unable to apply online you may print and mail an application and fee here. You must apply both to the Graduate College and to your intended major department.
The exceptions to this are the Master of Business Administratrion, Public Health, and Chemistry programs. When applying online with these programs, your application to the Graduate College is automatically facilitated by that department.
Applicants who wish to apply to several Graduate Programs will need to submit a seperate application for each program, and pay the application fee for each application. The Graduate College will send you an e-mail confirmation that will serve as your receipt for your on-line application.
I have already applied online, now what?
Contact the department you intend to study with and ensure you have submitted their application and all supporting documents. Submit all supporting documents (transcripts, letters of recommendation, CV, etc.) directly to the department you intend to study with.
What if I have questions about a Graduate Program?
The Graduate College does not house advisors or counselors for specific programs. Applicants must contact the department they are interested in studying with for answers to specific questions regarding program details, advising issues, etc.
How do I contact my department?
All department and contact information is listed in The Graduate College Program Description Guide located at: Program Descriptions. From this link you may select the department you are interested in studying with and it will display the contact information for that department as well as a brief description of the program of study. Some departments keep very specific instructions in this area, others supply general information only, but all departments maintain the best method of contact for their graduate student applicants through this guide.
How do I send my test scores for TOEFL or GRE?
The prefered method is to have the test score sent electronically from the testing center where you took the test. Submit the score electronically using the University of Arizona school code is 4832. Once received it will be entered in to your computer file and will be available to any department that views your file. Please contact the department you intend to study with about their specific test requirements. If you cannot submit the scores electronically mail the results page you received from the testing center to the address listed at the bottom of this page.
What if I don't have a completed financial guarantee when I apply?
The financial guarantee does not need to accompany the application. After final admission, the Graduate College will require a Financial Guarantee form in order to process any visa documents. If you receive any departmental funding, this funding may be applied towards your total financial guarantee. If you do not require visa documents you will not need to submit the financial guarantee. Check here for more information on Proof of Financial Resources.
Am I an Arizona Resident?
If you are a domestic student and an Arizona Resident you will need to fill out the Domicile Affidavit form. Only students who are claiming Arizona Residency need fill out this form. Check here for residency requirements.
What if I applied more than once by accident?
If you are charged more than one fee due to a multiple submission please e-mail Mike Millard at mmillard@grad.arizona.edu. Be prepared with the multiple charges details. He will need to know your name and student ID (if known), when you applied, how you applied, and the details of why you believe you were charged more than once. Please understand that if you submitted your on-line application multiple times our computer staff typically will catch those duplications and correct them immediately. Please contact your banking institution to verify that multiple charges have not already been voided before contacting The Graduate College.
What if I can't get everything there by the deadline?
The Graduate College does not have posted deadline dates. Please check with your department regarding their individual deadlines.
What else do I need to send?
Contact your department if you are not clear on what else must be sent. They are the only ones who can extend deadline dates or make special allowances for items arriving late.
What about my transcripts?
Send all transcripts to the department directly. The Graduate College will use the official transcripts you have provided to your major department to process your final admission after your department has made a positive recommendation for your admission.
How can I check if everything I need to send is there yet?
The best way to check on completion status is to contact the department you intend to study with. The details of what is needed, so that your file can be presented to their committees, can only be determined by directly contacting the department you intend to study with.
How will I know about my application or admission status?
For those who applied online, you may log back in to the online application system at https://apply.grad.arizona.edu/ to check your application status.
If you have mailed your application to the Graduate College, please contact the department you intend to study with for confirmation that your application is in the student record system.
Once your application is in our system, no further action will be taken by the Graduate College until the department you intend to study with changes your application status to "recommended".
When the student is recommended, we will contact your department to get the supporting documents we require for admission. If your department does not have the needed material, we will contact you via e-mail. You will be notified if any items are missing from your file only after your department has made a positive recommendation to the Graduate College.
What about financial aid?
Contact the department you intend to study with and the financial aid office. The Graduate College sponsors many different programs but all decisions about this funding are done at the departmental level. Only your department can tell you their particular funding options and what may be available to you. The financial aid office can assist domestic students with student loans and grants only after a FAFSA has been completed. You can fill out and check on your FAFSA at this link: http://www.fafsa.ed.gov/. For financial aid at the University of Arizona please check out this site: http://finaid.arizona.edu/.
