Admission Notification

Each applicant recommended for graduate admission by their department and determined eligible by the Dean of the Graduate College will be issued a Certificate of Graduate Admission. The Certificate of Graduate Admission can only be issued by the Dean of the Graduate College. The Certificate is the sole official verification that graduate admission to The University of Arizona has been approved.

Throughout the admissions process, questions about your application status, recommendation, or denial, should be addressed to your specific academic department or tracked through the online application system at https://apply.grad.arizona.edu.

The Certificate of Graduate Admission will specify the status to which the applicant has been admitted. The status will be one or the following:

Regular Graduate Status:

Students who meet all departmental and Graduate College admission requirements will be admitted to Regular Graduate Status. Only students in Regular Graduate Status can be awarded a graduate degree.

"Subject To" Admission:

Students who are admitted with a "Subject To" status, please note that your admission is subject to receipt of final official documents within 30 days of your enrollment at The University of Arizona. The required missing documents will be clearly stated at the bottom of your official Certificate of Admission. If you are currently pursuing a degree, the final document that must be submitted is the transcript which includes verification that the degree has been awarded. Failure to submit the required official documents may impact the disbursement of fellowship or scholarship funds and will prohibit students from receiving credit for current coursework, or registering for future semesters. Please send all "subject to" documents to: The University of Arizona, Graduate Admissions, PO Box 210066, Tucson, AZ 85721-0066 or bring them to the Graduate College front counter in Administration, Room 322 when you have arrived on campus

Admission with Deficiencies:

When previous academic work does not meet the general requirements for the corresponding bachelor's degree at The University of Arizona or the requirements for the field in which the candidate proposes to specialize, additional undergraduate courses may be required. With departmental approval, a maximum of 16 semester units of undergraduate coursework may be completed after admission to a graduate program to make up deficiencies. No graduate credit will be earned for this coursework.
