Graduate Program Assessment 2009
The Graduate Dean, working closely with upper administration, Graduate Council, Faculty Senate, directors of graduate studies, other faculty, and students, advocates for graduate education and sets the direction for the Graduate community. We contribute to assessment by collecting data to help programs monitor their performance compared to national trends. We provide consulting to departments to establish strategies for improvement and how to measure them.
The current assessment will provide input to the Provost and the Deans to aid decision making. The Graduate College provided data on completions, time to degree, diversity, acceptance rates, entering GPAs, number of graduates, and programs’ share of graduates. Programs verified data, provided additional data when available, and wrote short narratives. After deans’ ratings, a subcommittee of the Graduate Council reviewed materials and produced report which confirms the strengths of our graduate programs and identifies our top programs. This is a review of programs and NOT departments. Most of these data have been available and reviewed and verified by departments.
