Graduate Preparation for Undergraduates
Undergraduate Research Opportunity Programs
Each year, sophomore, juniors and seniors from UA and around the nation have an opportunity to participate in exciting summer research projects with dedicated UA faculty. This consortium of federal and institutionally funded research programs is designed to increase the number of first generation-college, low income and underrepresented students who are interested in graduate school.
While each of the programs has a unique focus, there a certain benefits that are common to all:
- a research project
- a faculty mentor
- preparation for the graduate application process
- professional development workshops
- social opportunities and a support network
- financial support (pay, stipends) ranging from $3000-$4500
These programs culminate in an annual conference at which students showcase their research through oral and poster presentations to the university and local community. In 2009, there were more University faculty and staff in attendance (100+) than there were students presenting (80+) -- a tribute to the institutional commitment to these students and the research enterprise.
