ANNOUNCEMENT

REQUEST FOR CANCER RESEARCH PROPOSALS FROM POSTDOCTORAL FELLOWS

The Hope Funds for Cancer Research is pleased to announce a request for research proposals for post doctoral fellows working in oncology These two-year fellowships will be awarded to post doctoral scientists commencing in 2010 with stipends of $41,000 for the first year and $43,000 for the second year.

The mission of the Hope Funds for Cancer Research is to encourage investigation of innovative cancer treatment and detection for the most difficult-to-treat and understudied cancers.  Fellowships will be awarded to scientists who propose to work on highly innovative research projects that challenge the traditional paradigms of understanding the causes, mechanisms, progression, disease markers or risk factors of the most difficult-to-treat cancers, including pancreatic, lung, liver, sarcomas, esophageal, brain, gastric and ovarian cancers. We prefer research that has translational opportunities.

We invite outstanding candidates from to submit applications for these Hope Funds for Cancer Research Post Doctoral Fellowships.  The fellowships are open to scientists who have recently completed their doctorate degrees and to scientists who have completed no more than two years of post doctoral work.

The first step in the application process is to submit a brief description of the proposed research using the Summary of Research Form and a description of the project. This form can be downloaded from our website: www.hope-funds.org (see Grants: Eligibility and Application). The completed form and description should be submitted by email directly to grants@hope-funds.org not later than 5:00 PM EDT on September 17, 2009.

An independent peer-review study session will review these abstracts and recommend a short list of candidates, who will be notified by December 2009.  These candidates will be asked to submit a more detailed research proposal and some additional supporting application materials.  Final selection and notification of grantees will be completed by June 2010.

If you have questions, email us at grants@hope-funds.org. We look forward to hearing from you.

Sincerely,
