The M.Ed in Secondary Education has three program options:
- A 'fast-track' one-year professional program (http://uas.arizona.edu/secondaryeducation ) that allows students holding bachelor's degrees to meet Arizona provisional certification standards and earn an M.Ed in as little as 12 months. The program admists students on a rolling basis.
- The Transition to Teaching (http://uas.arizona.edu/transition-to-teaching ) T2T option is a federally-funded program that prepares STEM teachers for border schools in Southeastern Arizona. The 16-month program provides students numerous benefits and opportunities for funding. Applications due April 30, program begins June 4. For more information, contact Sally Holcomb, sholcomb@email.arizona.edu .
- The Borderland Consortium (http://uas.arizona.edu/programs/bcaspc ) is an alternative path to certification and provides unlicensed, beginning teachers the opportunity to teach as Highly Qualified teaches on a state-issued intern certificate while they pursue their M.Ed. This program has rolling admissions.
SATISFACTORY ACADEMIC PROGRESS
Course Concerns:
Please note that there are specific written procedures and protocols for student concerns about a class, classroom instruction or a professor. Notice that procedures follow the same protocols as the grade appeal policy and can be found in the 2011-12 General Catalog.
In short:
Step 1: Discuss the matter(s) with the instructor.
Step II: If the matter is not resolved with the instructor, speak with the division chair.
Step III: If the matter is not resolved with the instructor and the division chair, speak with the dean. Failure to comply with precise protocol can result in a violation and sanctions may be put in place.
Step IV: If the matter is not satisfactorily resolved, you may file a grievance with the UA South Graduate Program Council.
Please note that the University of Arizona is very clear on student academic conduct and dishonesty (e.g. plagiarism). It is the student's responsibility to familiarize themselves with the University of Arizona's code. The University of Arizona Library has plagiarism resources that can be located here:

Non-degree Seeking Status
Applicants who do not meet the minimum required 3.00 cumulative grade-point average (GPA) for admission into the M.Ed. in secondary education may enroll in graduate non-degree status. After completing twelve (12) consecutive semester units of graded (A, B, C) graduate courses within their chosen secondary teaching concentration (English, math, social sciences) with a minimum 3.00 GPA, students with non-degree seeking status may apply for admission to the Master's in Education in Secondary Education. Students with non-degree status may not take courses in the M.Ed. program until admitted into the program.
Applicants in the process of applying for admission to the M.Ed. in Secondary Education may enroll in graduate non-degree status. Students with non-degree status may enroll in courses for graduate credit within their chosen secondary teaching discipline (English, math, social sciences). Students with non-degree seeking status may take up to twelve (12) credit hours with the non-degree seeking student designation. Students with non-degree status may not take courses in the M.Ed. program until admitted into the program.
Students may use these twelve (12) credit hours in their secondary teaching concentration to obtain the 'highly qualified' designation for licensure. Students may also select to register for twelve (12) credit hours in a second or third area of endorsement. Please speak with a program advisor about options while applying for admission.
