Description

The M.S. program is an ASHA accredited two-year course of study that includes a variety of clinical training opportunities for students desiring a career in speech-language pathology. The Au.D. program is an ASHA accredited four-year course of study that includes a variety of clinical training opportunities for students desiring a career in audiology. The Ph.D. program is designed to prepare students to embark on research careers. It is organized around mentoring relationships between faculty and students in a multidisciplinary setting. Master's program applicants should have a major or electives in speech and hearing sciences that comprise a minimum of 24 semester hours of coursework in the field. In addition, 6 semester hours in biological/physical sciences, 3 hours in mathematics, 6 hours in behavioral and/or social sciences, and 6 hours of English are required. Students need an undergraduate cumulative grade point average of at least 3.20, Graduate Record Examination (GRE) scores in excess of 1000 on the verbal and quantitative portions combined, and three strong letters of recommendation. The master's program with an emphasis in the clinical sciences requires a minimum of 36 graduate hours of study. The students' academic preparation and clinical training is broad based. The program fulfills ASHA certification requirements. Clinical teaching is provided in University clinics and in a variety of externship sites such as schools, specialty programs, and medical and rehabilitation centers. Applicants to the Audiology Doctoral (Au.D.) program should have a baccalaureate degree prior to enrolling. Applicants should have completed at least 6 semester hours each in biological and/or physical sciences, mathematics and/or statistics, behavioral and/or social sciences, speech, language, and hearing sciences, and English. Students need an undergraduate cumulative grade point average of at least 3.25, Graduate Record Examination scores in excess of 1000 on the verbal and quantitative portions combined, and three strong letters of recommendation. The Audiology Doctoral program provides students with the knowledge and skills to become certified clinical audiology professionals. The program provides a broad base of knowledge about human communication sciences and disorders and excellent research opportunities with outstanding mentors. Students are required to complete a minimum of 54 credit hours of graduate coursework exclusive of practicum and research registrations. National and international externship opportunities are available during the program of study. Applicants to the doctoral program must have a baccalaureate degree prior to enrolling. The typical applicant has completed a master's degree but one is not required. Successful applicants will have completed coursework in physical or life sciences and mathematics, as well as, in their major area of study. Students need an undergraduate cumulative grade point average of at least 3.20, Graduate Record Examination (GRE) scores in excess of 1000 on the verbal and quantitative portions combined, three strong letters of recommendation, and a sample of scholarly writing, such as a thesis, report of directed research, term paper, or publication. The doctoral program offers individualized courses of study designed to match each student's research interests with the coursework and mentored research experience needed to engage in independent research. A variety of research opportunities are available for students to work collaboratively with top scientists in the field and to undertake multidisciplinary studies and research. Students are required to complete a minimum of 36 graduate semester hours pertaining to human communication and its disorders exclusive of dissertation research and audits. Two research rotations are required prior to beginning dissertation research.
