Description

The department offers programs leading to the Master of Arts and Doctor of Philosophy degrees with a major in teaching and teacher education. There is also a one year intensive MED program with certification(Teach Arizona) which gives the student a master's degree and teacher certification. A minimum undergraduate grade point average of 3.00 (MA and MED) and 3.50 (PhD) is required for admission to full standing. However, prospective MA or MED students not meeting the minimum GPA requirement may be eligible for admission (1) on a provisional basis or (2) as a non-degree seeking student (Refer to Graduate Non-Degree Admission).  Provisional admission is considered by the Graduate College only upon recommendation and waiver submission by the academic department to which the prospective student has applied.  Waiver requests must be initiated by the recommending department and should document extenuating circumstances for the student which attest to success indicators other than GPA.  Upon completing 12 semester units of graded (A,B,C) 500 level or higher course work with a minimum grade-point average of 3.25 in either provisional or non-degree status, the student may be considered for regular admission.  A master's degree (in education or a related discipline) is a prerequisite for admission to a doctoral program. Beyond these minimal requirements, applicants must meet the specific admission requirements of the concentrations.
