Description

The department offers programs leading to the Master of Science degree with a major in Management Information Systems (MIS) and the Doctor of Philosophy degree in Management with an option in MIS. The department also participates in programs leading to the Master's in Business Administration, the Master's in Public Administration, and the Master's in Accounting.

From pioneering one of the early MIS programs three decades ago in 1974 and championing the development of an Information Systems (IS) Curriculum in partnership with Association of Computing Machinery (ACM), the faculty members in the MIS department at the Eller College of Management, have been at the forefront of IS education and research.

U.S. News & World Report has ranked the Management Information Systems (MIS) program at the Eller College a top-5 program every year since the inception of the rankings in 1989 - making it one of only three programs nationwide to maintain this status.

With over 70 million in research grants and other state and industry support, our program has initiated and participated in cutting edge research in many fields while educating over 3,500 undergraduate, 1,200 graduate and 150 doctoral students.

Management Information Systems (MIS) is the design and management of Information Technology (IT) for an organization. It focuses on the best way to enable the organization to meet its goals and business challenges.

MIS professionals are the “communication bridges” between IT and the business community. They analyze, design, implement and manage IT strategy to help solve business problems. MIS students first learn business processes and then analyze how to improve the processes using IT.

MIS pros secure positions in website design and development, consulting, security risk assessment, internet marketing, Sarbanes-Oxley audit control, business analysis, customer relationship management consulting, eCommerce, legal forensics, medical records automation, enterprise resource planning and supply chain management. Eller College MIS students are prepared for the future because they learn more than technical skills – they learn their application in support of business processes.

The M.S. program requires the completion of 31 graduate units, including a master's project.

The Ph.D. program requires the completion of 36 graduate units, plus a dissertation and oral defense.
