Final Comprehensive Examination
When the student has completed all course work or is in the final semester of course work, and has met the required standards of scholarship, he or she must pass a comprehensive written examination. An oral examination may also be required by the department. A candidate who fails a final oral examination may, upon the recommendation of his or her department, be granted a second examination after a lapse of a minimum of four months. A member of the Committee on Graduate Study will be appointed by the Dean of the Graduate College to oversee the second oral examination. The results of the second oral examination are final.
