Publication of Thesis
Some programs require a master's thesis or have a thesis option. A minimum of three University of Arizona faculty (two of whom must be tenure-track faculty) are required for the thesis committee.
Research involving human subjects or live vertebrate animals requires permission from the relevant University committee. Consult your research director and the Human Subjects Office for details. Their telephone number is (520) 626-6721. You must have Human Subjects approval in your own name; your project is not covered under your director's approval.
Research activities involving the use of human subjects require the review and approval of the University Human Subjects Committee. A copy of the Human Subjects approval letter along with the Human Subjects Research Statement must be in the student's file in the Graduate College Degree Certification Office.
Research involving any live vertebrate animals must be approved by the Institutional Animal Care and Use Committee (IACUC) - The Animal Research Protocol Review form must be completed by the student/instructor and submitted to the protocol office for review and approval. Contact University Animal Care for instructions, forms and protocol. Their telephone number is (520) 621-3454
Submission of the thesis to the Graduate Degree Certification Office, for publication by University Microfilms, Inc. and inclusion in The University of Arizona Library archives, is optional. There is a fee for microfilming and for copyrighting should a student choose those options. For more information consult the Manual for Theses and Dissertations available online and from the Graduate Degree Certification Office. Here are links for the Manual for Electronic Submission of Theses and Dissertations and the Manual for Paper Submission of Theses and Dissertations
Publication by microfilm does not preclude publication by other methods. Successful master's candidates are encouraged to submit thesis material for publication in scholarly or professional journals. Suitable acknowledgment must indicate the publication to be a thesis, or portion of a thesis, submitted in partial fulfillment of the requirements for a master's degree at The University of Arizona.
If the thesis is not to be microfilmed and placed in the University of Arizona Library, contact your academic department's graduate office for instructions regarding submission of the thesis to the department and the advisor.
