Graduate Entrance Examinations


Most graduate programs require standardized test scores such as the Graduate Record Examination (GRE), the Graduate Management Admissions Test (GMAT), or the Miller Analogies Test (MAT) for admission. Some departments may require applicants to take the GRE Subject Test in the appropriate discipline. Refer to Departments, for requirements specific to each department.

Standardized test scores to complete the are used to supplement other evidence of preparation for graduate work. Such scores are only one component of the credentials used to make admission decisions, and are evaluated in the context of the applicant's complete record.

It is important that the examination be taken as early as possible in the academic year prior to the application deadline to allow for sufficient processing time. Examinations are administered by the University of Arizona Testing Office and by sites throughout the country and the world, and require a registration application accompanied by an examination fee.
