Educate – Celebrate – Inspire - Serve

In 2007, we provided 16 school presenations, 135 RPCVs participated in the Fair, 300+ folks from the community learned about other cultures, and we cleaned ~75 bags of trash abandoned by migrants at a Pima County Park near Amado. All events were free and open to the public.

School Outreach: Mon and Tues Feb. 25-26

• Presentations were made in 16 local elementary, middle, high school and university classes by Returned Peace Corps volunteers about Peace Corps, the world, and service work

Peace Corps Fair: Wed Feb. 28, 4-7pm, Ballroom, Student Union

• Seventy-five international displays were hosted by Returned Peace Corps Volunteers, including Fellows, faculty, staff, and RPCV's of Southern Arizona
• Mini-presentations about Peace Corps experiences from around the world were featured including Stephanie and Adam Springer on their experiences in Lesotho.
• Patricia Preciado Martin, noted Tucson author and a Peace Corps Volunteer in Belize, was introduced by Brooks Jeffery, and spoke of her recent visit to Belize.
• UA Campus Peace Corps recruiter, Steven Cole, and Shelley Clarke, from the LA Regional Office, spoke briefly and were on hand all evening meeting with potential applicants.
• Peace Corps Fellows/USA distributed information on the Fellows program.
• World music, salsa dancing, international refreshments, costumes, photographs and memories from around the world highlighted the evening.

Community Service Project: Sat. March 3 - 8-1:30

• We teamed up with Humane Borders for a migrant trail cleanup at the Pima County Parks & Recreation's Marley Ranch near Amado. About 50 RPCV's and friends collected some 75 large bags of discarded items, filling an extra-large commercial dumpster.
