The Accelerated Master’s Program in Agricultural & Biosystems Engineering (AM) is a program designed to enable advanced UA undergraduate students to complete both the Bachelor of Science degree in Biosystems Engineering and the Master of Science degree in Agricultural & Biosystems Engineering in a total of five (5) years. This program is available only for undergraduate students majoring in Biosystems Engineering at the UA.
The Agricultural and Biosystems Engineering Department Accelerated Master of Science Degree program offers students the opportunity for study and research in many fields, including the following: Controlled Environment Agriculture; Water Resources; Biometry and Biosystems Informatics; Food, Bioproducts, and Renewable Energy. The flexibility of the program allows students, in consultation with their advisors, to develop programs specifically suited to their needs.
Departmental programs focus on biological systems and water related issues such as irrigation and water quality, and biosystems applications, including computer modeling, sensors and controls, and systems design and evaluation. However, students will find that a program can be designed to fit almost any need in the general field of the application of engineering principles to the solution of agricultural and biological engineering problems. The flexibility of the program allows international and domestic students, in consultation with their advisors, to develop programs specifically suited to their needs. The University of Arizona is a diverse institution and therefore provides courses in many different areas to support specific and general programs. Interdisciplinary desires of students are met by taking courses across the broad spectrum available in the College of Engineering and the College of Agriculture and other divisions on campus.

Biosystems Engineering Majors submit an online application UAGraduate College, Agricultural and Biosystems Engineering Acclerated Masters of Science Program. After acceptance into the ABE Acclerated Masters program, the students register during their senior (fourth) year to take a combination of undergraduate and graduate courses. These courses will serve both as electives for the BS degree and as core or elective courses for the MS degree.
After completing graduate requirements, the student will receive credit toward their udergraduate degree and a Master’s degree.
To be considered eligible to apply for the AMP, students must:
Be a continuing, undergraduate Engineering Major at the University of Arizona.
Have a minimum cumulative GPA of 3.3.
At the time of application, have completed a minimum of 75 units of undergraduate coursework; a minimum of 12 undergraduate units must have been completed in the student’s major at the University of Arizona’s main campus.
Research experience as an undergraduate is not a requirement, but it is desirable.

UA Graduate College policies on AMPs
Students will be considered undergraduates until they complete the required 128 units for the BSBE undergraduate degree.
Once admitted to the AMP, students may take up to 12 units of graduate coursework. The Graduate units taken during the senior year will be applied towards the:
Students will be charged at the undergraduate rate and retain eligibility for undergraduate scholarships.
After completion of all BS requirements, students will be granted graduate status, be charged at the graduate rate, and be eligible for graduate assistantships.
Should a student have completed 12 graduate credits and not yet completed the undergraduate degree, they will be considered graduate for financial aid and tuition purposes and coded as “graduate” in the UAccess Student System. They will no longer be eligible for undergraduate scholarships. Nor will they be eligible for graduate assistantships.
Students must complete their BS undergraduate requirements no later than one semester before receiving their MS.
A miniumum of 12 graduate units must be completed after the BS degree requirements are met. A total of 30 gradutate credit hours must be taken: which consist of at least 25 non-thesis units and 5 thesis (910) units or 5 engineering report (909) units.
