Program Description

A minor in Educational Psychology allows doctoral students to specialize in areas related to the psychology of education.  Specializations include, but are not limited to quantitative statistical methods, learning theories, research design methodology, human development, program evaluation, and assessment and measurement.  Students may be majoring in any area including Educational Psychology.

Educational Psychology

Graduate programs in the Department of Educational Psychology prepare students for productive roles in research, teaching, and many other areas in which educational psychology is applied.

The department offers master of arts in educational psychology and doctor of philosophy with a major in educational psychology.

Student programs in each area are individualized with a wide range of courses, internships, and research offerings.

Admissions Information

Admissions Requirements

To minor in Educational Psychology, doctoral students must have an EDP faculty member agree to serve as minor advisor.  The advisor and department head need to approve the minor coursework plan of study and the advisor must approve the proposed topic for the comprehensive exam paper.

Core Coursework Requirements

Students minoring in Educational Psychology need to work with their minor advisor to identify at least 9 credits that best fit the student's minor specialization. 

 
Elective Coursework

Students minoring in Educational Psychology need to work with their minor advisor to identify at least 9 credits that best fit the student's minor specialization.

 
Additional Requirements

Students minoring in Educational Psychology need to complete a comprehensive exam document related to the minor specialization.  The Graduate College requires an examination in the ‘subject’ that is represented by the set of minor courses.  There are several options for the written minor in EDP, and the advisor has the freedom to suggest options that fit a particular situation.  The subject of the minor does not need to be totally contained within EDP.
