Departments which partner with UA Peace Corps Coverdell Fellows are linked below. We will consider other programs by request (e.g. Educational Leadership, Special Education, Agricultural and Biosystems Engineering, Photography, and the dual M.D./M.P.H. for the M.P.H. portion only). Since 2000, University of Arizona Coverdell Fellows have collaborated with more than 150 non-profit, government, and applied research agencies working with underserved communities. You can also learn more about current Coverdell Fellow placements here - 2019-2020 Fellows Outreach Assistantship Placements.

Tucson is a richly complex community that offers an abundance of interesting opportunities. Migrant and refugee issues, health disparities, use of water resources, range management, fire management planning, and economic and community development issues are challenging and relevant to our community. Tucson has one non-profit organization for approximately every 375 residents.

Information on this page describes ways that agencies can partner with us to host a Peace Corps Coverdell Fellow.

UA Coverdell Fellows commit to providing approximately 320 hours of service and outreach annually for each of two years. Service must benefit an underserved community in the United States or its territories. Service is usually conducted through a quarter-time (.25 FTE) Outreach Assistantship, which is usually paid, but is sometimes a volunteer or academic experience.

Paid Internships

One of the most commonly stated benefits of Coverdell Fellows at the UA is the sense of community. We build community through the following:

ORIENTATION AND MENTORING
  • All incoming Fellows participate in orientation the week prior to the start of classes, and are assigned a mentor
  • A PCF "Moving to Tucson" guide and weekly emails for incoming Fellows helps with the transition to Tucson and graduate school
OUTREACH ASSISTANTSHIP

The theme of the 2018 Peace Corps Fair was "Friends Without Borders".  Thanks to all our friends, community and academic partners, and the students of UA for coming out.
