Application Process

Getting Started:

  • View departmental admissions requirements in our Graduate Admissions Guide.  You can also explore curriculum for specific graduate programs in the University Catalog.*

  • Apply online using GradApp, our convenient, online Graduate Admissions Application.

  • Create a profile and be prepared to upload unofficial pdf versions of all transcripts and diploma/degree certificates.

  • Determine which campus you will be applying to.  Students may not be simultaneously enrolled on multiple campuses.  If you are already enrolled in a graduate program on one UA campus, you must complete or discontinue your current program before enrolling in a new program on a different campus.

  • Carefully review departmental application instructions and be prepared to upload miscellaneous documents such as a personal statement, test score data, recommender contact information, etc.  Some departments require official transcripts be sent to them directly for review purposes.

  • After completing all the modules, applicants must complete the last 3 steps.  1. Pay the application fee**, 2. Review your application details, and 3. Submit the application, to complete the process.  You will receive an email when your application has been successfully submitted.

  • Failure to submit departmental documents promptly can delay the review of your application.

  • You may return to GradApp and view your Application Processing Checklist to track application review progress.

*Applicants to the PharmD program or the Law JD program do not use the GradApp system for application.  Please use the appropriate program link to access those applications.

**If you are applying to multiple programs, you must complete and pay for each application.

Awaiting a Decision:

  • Once submitted, your application and electronic documents are available for your department of interest to review.

  • The Graduate College does not make initial admission decisions.  Departments have varying timelines for review and the Graduate College must await an official admission recommendation from your department of interest.

  • If recommended for admission, the Graduate College will notify you via same day via email.  We then perform a final verification to affirm that minimum admissions requirements to the University of Arizona have been met.  If additional documents are necessary we will request them via email at this time.

After Admission – All students:

  • Admitted students will receive same day email notification of formal admission.

  • Login to GradApp to accept (or decline) your admission and view your official Certificate of Admission.

  • View the Status field on your Certificate of Admission document.  The admissions process for students with a "Complete" status is completed.

  • Students with “Subject To” status must still submit necessary documents.  Please refer to our Subject To page for more information.

After Admission – International students only:

  • After admission, students will receive an email from International Student Services (ISS) with instructions on how to request an I-20/DS-2019.

  • Students should review Financial Guarantee requirements to determine the amount of funding they will be required to show.

  • ISS will review the request and email the I-20/DS-2019 directly to the student.

  • For more information on the I-20/DS-2019 request process, applying for a visa, online check-in requirements and travel, check the New Graduate Students page on the ISS website.
