Reappointments

  • Reappointments are contingent upon available funding from the department and are not guaranteed.
  • In order to maintain the Graduate Assistant/Associate position and be eligible for possible reappointment in future semesters, graduate students must:
  1. maintain satisfactory academic progress and/or progress to degree,
  2. maintain a cumulative GPA of 3.0 or higher,
  3. be a degree seeking student and
  4. satisfactorily complete their assigned duties.

Resignations

  • GAs are required to tender a letter of resignation when leaving their position before the end of their appointment contract (e.g., degree completion, withdrawing from the university, changing from salary to wages or changing status from student employment to faculty or staff).
  • GAs will submit the letter to the appropriate departmental representative for completion of a termination report.

Terminations

  • GAs may be terminated before the scheduled end of their appointment for poor performance, resulting in lost benefits and charges to accounts.
  • Supervisors should notify GAs immediately if their work is not meeting expectations.
  • Departments should reach out to the Graduate College for assistance and advice on steps to resolving the situation prior to termination.

Please note that when GA appointments end early, the GA generally will owe charges due to withdrawal of benefits. It is strongly advised that the department and/or the GA contact the Graduate College at gahelp@grad.arizona.edu  to determine the financial implications of the early termination.
