The School of Music offers programs leading to the Master of Music degree with emphases in composition, ethnomusicology, music education, musicology, music theory, and performance (including accompanying and conducting).
The School also offers a program leading to the Doctor of Musical Arts degree with emphases in composition, conducting, and performance. In the doctoral performance emphasis, concentrations are available in bassoon, cello, clarinet, flute, guitar, horn, harp, oboe, organ, percussion, piano, saxophone, string bass, trombone, trumpet, viola, violin, and voice.
The School also offers programs leading to the Doctor of Philosophy degree with emphases in music theory or music education. Additional details regarding graduate programs in the School of Music are available from the Office of Academic Student Services in Music. The faculty admits applicants who exhibit superior musical aptitude, appropriate training, and who show evidence of growth in their chosen field(s) within music. All applicants must audition by personal interview or by submission of an audio recording. Entering graduate students will take diagnostic tests in music theory and music history/literature. Doctoral students may not submit an official study plan until successful completion of a qualifying examination administered by the proposed major and minor advisory committees. Ordinarily, new students will write and perform this examination during the first semester in residence. Music Fees: All students registering for private instruction are charged special fees each semester according to the following schedule. One-half hour private lesson: $105 One-hour private lesson: $125
