The faculty admits applicants who exhibit superior musical aptitude, appropriate training, and who show evidence of growth in their chosen field(s) within music. All applicants must audition by personal interview or by submission of an audio recording. Entering graduate students will take diagnostic tests in music theory, music history/literature, and English composition. Doctoral students may not submit an official study plan until successful completion of a qualifying examination administered by the proposed major and minor advisory committees. Ordinarily, new students will write and perform this examination during the first semester in residence.
