Iskash*taa Refugee Harvesting Network

Iskash*taa is an inter-generational group of refugees from Africa and Tucsonan volunteers harvesting approximately 20,000 lbs. of fruits and vegetables each year from backyards and local farms for redistribution to refugee families from many countries and other Tucson organizations that assist families in need.
Jewish Family and Children's Service of Southern Arizona *
Refugee Resettlement Services Department assists individuals and families legally admitted into the United States who are fleeing persecution in other countries. They have assisted hundreds of families from the former Soviet Union, Bosnia, Iran, Vietnam and Africa settle locally into the Tucson culture. (Organization disbanded in 2007 and is reformed effective April 2008.)

SBAT advocates on behalf of Somali Bantu and other refugees for access to professional and educational resources to assist families in making successful cultural, economic and social transitions to life in the U.S. It also provides services to assist families in becoming economically stable, civically engaged citizens of Tucson. Fellows have developed ESL and computer training modules, and have recruited and trained volunteers to teach ESL classes.

This in-house clinic provides students with the opportunity to help people who are undergoing deportation (or "removal") proceedings in Tucson. Interpretation and legal assistance provided to detainees at an INS center 60 miles north of Tucson. A RPCV with legal background served as a court interpreter.
