Peace Corps Resources in Southern Arizona

  • Approximately 800 RPCV's reside in Southern Arizona and 1100 reside in Maricopa County (Phoenix).
  • Returned Peace Corps Volunteers of Southern Arizona has 75+ active members who meet monthly, engage in service projects and raise funds for Peace Corps projects around the world.   • The University of Arizona is a top 25 recruiting school for Peace Corps and ranks 18th for all time. Contact campus recruiter, Steve Cole, at pcorps@ag.arizona.edu. The University of Arizona Peace Corps Campus Representative Position

Start Date: End of September/beginning of October 2007. Training to occur 1-2 weeks prior.

Position Description: The U of A Peace Corps Campus Representative Position is a ½-time Graduate Research Assistantship Position (20 hours/week) within the University of Arizona under the supervision of Dr. Amir Ajami, Associate Director International Programs, College of Agriculture and Life Sciences. This position includes an out-of-state tuition waiver, university student health insurance, and a ½-time Graduate Assistantship stipend. The position requires a two-year commitment. Duties include:

- Provide information about Peace Corps Volunteer service opportunities to the campus community and to neighboring communities.

- Distribute brochures, posters, visual aids, and other Peace Corps recruitment materials to individuals, groups, associations, faculty, etc.

- Establish collaborative relationships and maintain personal contact on campus and in the surrounding community.

- Prepare and give presentations and classroom talks, attend career fairs, conduct tabling on the UA Mall, and conduct office hours.

- Interview and nominate applicants for Peace Corps service.

- Answer emails and phone calls from interested applicants.

- Interact and conduct activities with Returned Peace Corps Volunteers and U of A Peace Corps Fellows.

- Process files and submit to the Los Angeles Regional Office (LARO).

- Submit monthly, quarterly, and yearly reports to the LARO.

- Submit yearly strategic plans and calendar of events to take place during the year to the LARO.

- Attend 1-2 (3-day) meetings at the LARO per year.

Position Qualifications:

- Must be a Returned Peace Corps Volunteer and a full-time Graduate Student (preferably someone who has recently started their graduate degree).

- Experience with recruiting or experience with similar job duties.

- Independent thinker and worker (the current office for this position is in the Education Building, where no supervision occurs, thus the individual who takes over this position must be able to work with little guidance from the U of A Supervisor).
