From social service to healthcare to post-secondary teaching to the technology sector, an ever-growing number of professions are requiring graduate degrees. Our primary goal is to support graduate programs and their students in the development of the next generation of leaders who have the knowledge and skills to solve the world’s Grand Challenges.
Core Elements of the Graduate College Strategic Plan
Success Outcomes:
- Broad conveyance of “why” graduate school
- Recruitment campaigns that display the value of a graduate degree to prospective students
- Enhance campus collaborations and partnerships to promote best practices in graduate student recruitment
- Promote the skills graduate students develop during their training at UA
- Modernize website to increase prospective student engagement with content
- Lean into servingness mission
- Strategic recruitment efforts that prioritize serving the needs of the state, land grant mission and HSI classification
- Cultivate alumni relationships with graduate students to enhance their network and demonstrate the possibilities of a UA graduate degree
- Promoting the values of community and belonging
- Increase financial support options
- Expand scholarship options and access for graduate students
- Amplify the ORP research grant options and the students who are selected for fellowships
- Enhance partnerships with colleges to increase training grant opportunities and research assistantships

- Implement graduate student milestone tracking procedures to enhance timely progression to degree completion
- Enhance wellness initiatives in collaboration with strategic partners
- Analyze frequently observed challenge areas for students to determine policies and procedures that are barriers to student success
- Improve new Director of Graduate Studies (DGS) and Graduate Program Coordinator (GPC) education to enhance dissemination of best practices
- Review national literature and conference presentations to adopt the best practices in graduate education
- Expand incorporation of mentorship best practices
- Evaluate the barriers to adoption and design incentive mechanisms
- Scale impact mentoring best practices through train the trainer models
- Expand multi-tier mentoring training to support all graduate students
