Today, Graduate College Dean Andrew Carnie formally announced the move of the Graduate College’s Latin American Programs Office to the Office of Global Initiatives (OGI):
“This change will offer more opportunities, different and innovative ways to develop new international collaborations and strengthen current programs by connecting the Latin American Office to related projects in OGI.
I would like to thank Nadia Alvarez and her team for their exceptional achievements on behalf of the Graduate College. They have extended our reach throughout Mexico, Central and South America. They have created amazing programs that have brought some of the best graduate students from our southern neighbors to UA. From the CONACyT program to great summer programs for students from Mexico and Central America, to newer programs for teachers and Architects from Universities and Polytechnicas in Mexico, the impact of Nadia and the LAP office has been amazing. These programs are literally award winning. For example, in 2012, the summer program was awarded the Senator Paul Simon Spotlight Award by NAFSA. UA’s LAP office was only one of 5 selected by the Institute of International Education (IIE) to expand these types of programs to new regions.
We are sad that Nadia, Adrian and Maria Jose will be moving out of the Graduate College and will miss them! However, I look forward to continuing to work with them all in their new expanded roles in OGI.
So please join me in thanking Nadia, Adrian and Maria Jose for all their hard work and wish them the best for their new endeavors.”
