Application Process

Getting Started:

  • After choosing a program or programs*, go to our Graduate Admissions Application, GradApp.

  • Create a profile and be prepared to upload unofficial pdf versions of all transcripts.

  • Check departmental application instructions.  Be prepared to upload miscellaneous documents such as a personal statement, test score data, recommender contact information, etc.  Some departments require official transcripts be sent to them directly for review purposes.

  • Failure to submit departmental documents promptly can delay the review of your application.

  • Use the Application Checklist to track your progress.

  • Pay the application fee**, Review your application details, and Submit your application.

*Applicants to the Master's of Business Administration (MBA) (except the Online MBA), the PharmD program, or the Law JD program must apply using external departmental applications. Click the appropriate program link to access those applications.

**If you are applying to multiple programs, you must complete and pay for each application.

Awaiting a Decision:

  • Once submitted, your application and electronic documents are available for review by your department of interest.

  • The Graduate College does not make initial admission decisions, we will await an official admission recommendation from your department.  

  • If recommended for admission, the Graduate College will notify you via email and perform a final admission evaluation.  Any missing documents are requested via email at this time.

After Admission – All students: 

  • Admitted students will receive email notification of admission.

  • Login to GradApp to accept your admission and view/print your official Certificate of Admission.

  • Check the Status on your Certificate of Admission document.  The admissions process for Complete status students is completed.  

  • Students with “Subject To” status, please refer to our Subject To page for more information.

After Admission – International students only:

  • The I-20 or DS-2019 process begins with a financial email sent to admitted students from our Visa Section.

  • Students must submit a completed Financial Guarantee form and/or proof of departmental, sponsor, or family funding.  Any funding combination to meet the total amount required is acceptable.  Financial documents must be dated within 6 months.

  • Students with completed I-20 or DS-2019 documents will be notified via email and given instructions on how to use E-ship Global to ship their documents.

  • All international students MUST register for mandatory International Orientation with the International Student Services office.
